Built in the early sixteenth century by the will of the banker Agostino Chigi, Villa Farnesina represents one of the highest expressions of the italian Renaissance. Designed by the architect Baldassarre Peruzzi, it was frescoed by Raffaello, Sebastiano del Piombo, Giovanni da Udine and Sodoma.
